Schauer Helps Pass Economic Stimulus Bill to Create Michigan Jobs
Bill includes tax cuts for middle-class families, critical infrastructure projects that will create jobs now, and investments in advanced battery research to fuel long-term economic growth
Washington,
Jan 28 -
Today U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer (D-Battle Creek) voted in favor of passing the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, legislation that will create and save jobs in Michigan while investing in the future of our nation.
"Michigan has been hit harder by the recession than any other state in the country, and that's why we took this bold action to jump-start our economy and start putting people back to work," said Schauer. "By investing in education, extending unemployment benefits, fixing our crumbling roads and bridges, and investing in advanced battery technology for the domestic auto industry, we can create jobs today and lay the groundwork for the high-tech jobs of tomorrow."
Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Michigan school districts stand to receive approximately $1.4 billion to renovate and modernize classrooms, libraries, and labs in elementary and secondary schools. The state would also stand to receive more than $1.2 billion in total infrastructure spending to modernize roads and bridges, improve public transit and rail, and modernize public infrastructure to lower energy costs.
Congressman Schauer has hosted several meetings in recent weeks with local officials and business leaders to discuss critical infrastructure projects that will help create jobs in the 7th Congressional district.
